IMAGE PLAYS JOURNAL : How did you first get into your craft?

LORETO FIGUEROA : I studied visual arts with mention in painting, I have always been interested in this world. I learned in 2019 in La Serena, Chile with my 85 year old teacher Mercedes Gutiérrez. I took a couple of classes and then I was learning by myself. Trial by error.

IMAGE PLAYS JOURNAL : How has the current pandemic impacted your creative process?

LORETO FIGUEROA: The pandemic has affected me for good, the city is quieter and I need the silence, the calm to work, so I can concentrate.

IMAGE PLAYS JOURNAL : Can you walk us through the process of your handmade pieces?

LORETO FIGUEROA : I start kneading, taking out the bubbles, and then with medium preconceived ideas I do the work, sometimes I start from the plan, stretching the dough, as if it looked like a blank sheet, my studies in drawing have facilitated this process, then I do the lifting, sometimes I make sketches, sometimes not, I always work on more than one piece, I'm a scattered person. hehehehe.
